About this series

I have found that I go through phases when it comes to my YouTube addiction. Sometimes it’s anime AMVs, movie trailers for movies that I probably won’t watch, or some random rabbit hole that I go down and then suddenly I know way too much about something. This is a series of those rabbit holes. I hope to keep this series going every month, so I can chronicle my YouTube habits and share some cool stuff with you all. I will update this list throughout the month, so check back and see how it evolves!

My Favorite Videos - July 2026

Here are some of my favorite videos I’ve watched recently. I’ve been watching a lot more YouTube during the summer, as I don’t have much to do right now. In terms of genre, I tended to stick to only music videos/GMVs, whether they were fan-made or official. This month’s list is very random, so sorry if it’s a bit all over the place. Future months will probably be centered around themes.

Music

Marie douceur, Marie colère

About this Video

This is a cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black”, with new lyrics written in French. I don’t speak a lick of French, but it sounds really dark and melancholic, yet upbeat, and I love it. It reminds me of one of those songs you hear in an offbeat action movie sequence. Maybe something like in the movie Léon: The Professional, which I still need to watch. Marie Laforêt is one of the great French singers, and she has a lot of other hit songs as well. If you are looking to broaden your musical horizons, I highly recommend checking out her music.

Welcome To My Island (George Daniel & Charli XCX Remix)

About this Video

Ah, yes, god emperor Charli XCX with the real lead Brat single. I like the original, but this one deviates so strongly from the original it makes a left turn and ends up on Mars. I swear my confidence always goes up while listening to this song, so much so that I feel like I could punch a hole through a wall. However, most of the time I’m just sitting here listening to music while being a total couch potato, so that never happens. It’s a bop, though. That’s for sure.

filthy bangers for hot girls with loose hips (dj mix - ukg, jersey club, hyperpop, kpop)

About this Video

I randomly came across this DJ set while working on some coding projects, and my world has been shooketh ever since. If the previous song could make me punch a hole through the wall, this set makes me feel like I could kill someone, I’m so serious. This set is the perfect hyperpop/UKG/Jersey club/kpop mix, and it has everything: Charli, PinkPanthress, Doja Cat, Ayesha Erotica, LE SSERAFIM, KATSEYE, Megan Thee Stallion, and my personal favorite, Pebbles&TamTam, among many others. Everything blends well together, and I can’t thank the DJ enough. This set is what I hear in my dreams now.

AMVs/GMVs/Edits

What's Up Danger - Ready or Not Edit

About this Video

I have never played the game Ready or Not, and I strongly suspect it to be copaganda, but the lore seems pretty interesting and this editor did a great job of telling a story. It actually seems like this game attempts to be nuanced about the role of police in society, but who knows how well it is executed. This GMV definitely takes a stand. It says that police are the ones on the front lines of a system broken by those much more powerful than them, i.e. politicians. The policing system in America is broken as well, with many corrupt and immoral police officers who are trained to strike first and ask questions later. Criminals are often just disadvantaged people who have been repeatedly failed by this broken system and have decided to take matters into their own hands, which makes them sympathetic characters. I definitely want to write a blog post about how the policing system in America is broken, as this blurb is getting pretty long already and I have much more to say. In the end, the GMV is pretty cool and I like it for its nuance. Also, I love this song so much, and it’s a great choice for an GMV like this.

Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 (2022) 「GMV」- Enemy

About this Video

I’m going to start this off by saying I have never played a Call of Duty game in my entire life. I know, I know. I’m a trash gamer. The only reason I know anything about COD is because of the GMVs I have been watching and the memes I have seen on the internet. Not to mention that I’m kind of a lore-head. This video is a great example of that. It features a good song choice with “Enemy” by Tommee Profitt and fits the tone of the game well. After doing such a deep dive recently into the rebooted COD: Modern Warfare lore, I kind of want to play the campaigns now for each of the games. Also, apparently there is a third installment coming out this October. I have no interest in doing the multiplayer stuff, as I know I will suck ass at it, but I do want to follow the story of Captain Price and Task Force 141. This GMV was the one that got my hooked in the first place, and I think it’s pretty good.

The Day Of The Jackal - Champagne Poetry

About this Video

Recently I’ve been obsessed with the show The Day of the Jackal, wherein an elite assassin with a penchant for disguise, the Jackal, who works for the highest bidder goes on the run from the British intelligence service. It’s a super interesting thriller starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch. When I came across this really well done edit of the show, I was blown away. The beat sync is perfect and it showcases the tension between the Jackal and Bianca, the intelligence officer searching for him. Also, who doesn’t love a bit of badassery? ;)
